In case you may have been hiding under a rock or lost in some news starved delirium for the past year or so, Triptykon is the newest band formed by Tom Warrior (yup he's using the old name again) from Celtic Frost fame. Now I know this could have gone either way. It could have been the natural successor to the amazing "Monotheist" album or it could have been another self indulgent industrial wankfest ala Apollyon Sun. Thankfully it lives up to the words of the man himself and is the album that should follow Monotheist. Unfortunately it isn't under the Celtic Frost banner but the down tuned and dirty guitar sound that made "Monotheist" perhaps the heaviest album of the legendary Frost's career is back in fine and brutal form and Mr. Warrior's vocals are more venomous than anything I have heard from him previously. Also welcome is the addition of some real speed to compliment and offset the oppressive doom-styled material that molded the framework of the "Monotheist" masterpiece. Although I have only the two advance tracks to go by, if these two tracks are in anyways indicative of what we can expect from the rest of "Eparistera Daimones", then the band (and Mr. Warrior) may have managed to outdo the "Monotheist" album and perhaps anything Celtic Frost managed to create since the mid 80's.
For a band to be made "Band of the Month" without even a properly released demo or promo should speak volumes of the quality of these advanced tracks. As if this wasn't one of the more anticipated metal releases of 2010 already, these tracks certainly back up the promise of this new act and set up an early front runner on those "best of" lists for 2010. I have a feeling it'll have a spot on mine and probably somewhere near the top. Be prepared to be blown away. - K.N.
