A new and most impressive beast is arising from our far west, Edmonton in this
case, in the form of the increasingly talked about Weapon. With sterling
reviews from across the metal spectrum and more importantly, the respect of
the underground metal fanatics, they are preparing to assume their rightful spot
at the forefront of Canadian Black Metal.
Within a genre that is starved of originality and/or individuality, Weapon truly
shines. No one is playing anything remotely like this as far as I am aware of
and I'm not sure anyone else could get away with some of the "quirky" vocal
back-ups and odd riffing signatures that litter most of the tracks on their
brilliant "Drakonian Paradigm" opus. No band from Canada in recent memory
has managed to sound so unlike anything else that's out there at the moment
and really capture their own identity but Weapon have certainly accomplished
it. Perhaps it's from being locked away in the vast tundra of the north west or a
product of something spawned from the Bangladeshi lineage within the band
but they have surely found their own voice. And what a mighty voice it is. Ladies
& gentlemen here you have it; the best new band in Canada: Weapon.
